Never Forget

Reflection:

This post is very late because I was called once more to the hospital bedside of Michael whom I referred to in an earlier post. He is still have a very difficult time coming to grips with his situation. His faith in God and Christ is not strong enough to sustain him in this difficult situation. His fears are normal for a father of three young boys. He does not want to leave them without a father. He wants them to grow up with his guidance and protection.

When I was with him the last time, I reminded him of the story we heard earlier in the week about the official whose child Jesus cured and how Jesus was first to tell him it was faith that accomplished those things. It may have given him something to shoot for but I think when you get to the point of really needing to be sustained by your faith before you think about building it up, it's too late. Of course, that's me talking. For God all things are possible and no prayer is unanswered.

Jesus speaks to us through John's Gospel again today. He reminds us that it is through him we most genuinely know the Father and it is through John's Gospel we most clearly see the divine side of the Lord. He is throwing a lifeline with the words of John. He is giving us a place to take our fear and our hopes.

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my wordand believes in the one who sent mehas eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life. (Jn 5;24)

How can we just drop that on a person who has grown away from Christ for most of his life and expect it to bring instant results. Perhaps we can't, but God's had is always out stretched. What is most powerful to me is the last line we hear today from the first reading in Isaiah:

Can a mother forget her infant,be without tenderness for the child of her womb?Even should she forget,I will never forget you. (Is 49;15)
