Wednesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Reflection:
I'm sure almost everyone remembers the WWJD fad of a couple years ago. After reading the Gospel today I am once again reminded of an ongoing goal I have for myself that is in the same vein. That goal is to develop the "Christ Reflex". What I mean by that is to develop in myself the reactions of Christ to situations in which I find myself. As it is, if I pause long enough and get my emotions under control I can usually figure out what Jesus would do in some situations. Reflexively I still do not react with love in all situations.
I can't quite figure out how to have the supreme confidence that Jesus must have had (or perhaps it was just something else - an attitude that allowed him not to be personally affected by those who hated him). At the same time he had the humility to and discipline not to use the power he had to affect outcomes.
It is this unique combination of calm (or peace of character or perhaps simply supreme grace) coupled with that genuine love for all peoples that allowed him to disarm even his most ardent detractors. It is that attitude, I believe, that is necessary in order to develop the Christ Reflex.
Getting there is something else. The grace that comes from being constantly focused on Christ must be the most direct path to the peace filled state that permits us to act with compassion and love. I know that without it we drift away from Him and the peace that flows from Him.
I have said what went before because the only way for us to follow his instruction and prevent evil from coming out of us, we must fill ourselves with good, that ultimate good that comes from the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Pax
